Tough Love

I've seen this meme template around and I thought it would fit rather well, hence I didn't bother doing anything more than a quick job of this. The intention here is more important than the end product.

It always strikes me as interesting the logical backflips required to justify a relationship between a human and an alien whose race is currently attempting to purge humanity from the face of the galaxy. Once your couple have each gotten past the general repulsion of the average person to bestiality, the hatred of mortal enemies, the zealous religious prohibitions, the polar cultural differences, crushing social rejection and likely complete sexual incompatibility, the formation of a stable relationship is less likely than a hardline Christian redneck senator getting a gay marriage to the leader of Al Qaeda.

I don't understand why so many people seem to want to write their characters into this ridiculous position.

PS: For the record, in a canon such as Mass Effect/Star Wars/etc. where the aliens get on a bit more harmoniously and one lot isn't trying to exterminate the other, it's nowhere near as bad.
