Description

My formal introduction to my latest character, Shaka for *SteinWill's anthro rebels universe. Shaka is a black leopard demolitions expert. He is a defector from the fascist regime's special forces and is a solemn, disciplined and highly focused soldier, skilled in infiltration and concealment as well as in his specialism with explosives.

Having grown up entrenched in regime propaganda, he still retains some remnants of their racist ideology and quietly believes himself superior by birthright to his reptilian compatriots. He took up arms with the rebels more through a "the enemy of my enemy" mentality than because he believed in their cause although as time passes and he finds his life indebted to more and more of those he would consider his inferiors, he begins to rethink his own worldview.

The rest of his backstory can be found here: [link]
Be warned, it's rather dark and depressing.

Anyhow, I set out with this picture to move faster and less meticulously than I usually do and being that it's only really taken about 1.5 months of on-off work, I count it as a success on that front. I was under a bit of pressure being that TWO people have managed to get a picture on dA of my own character up before I did. How embarrassing!

Things I learned: When painting an explosion, it is much much easier to start with black and build up orange on top than it is to start orange and then add black on top.

Anyhow, pushing my boundaries once again I think with this. If you've got any criticism for me on this, always appreciated. Fixing my best works objectively makes me better as an artist.

Nice painting. I think you handled the explosion really well!
