Azura in battle against a city guard atop the battlements of a fortress- Excuse the pessimism, but I think I'm backing on beast for this one. =P

Hoorah! It's finally finished! My first foray into the world of A3 drawing. When I came up with the idea for this one, I found that with an A4 piece of paper, I simply had no room for all the detail I wanted on it. Hence I moved up and bought an A3 drawing pad. I liked being able to draw at a more advanced scale, but boy, this took FOREVER. I started with a new set of graphite pencils and most of them are worn down about a centimetre and a half from all the times I had to sharpen them again.

Anyhow, I'm very pleased with this and with the exception of the background, it was awesome fun to draw (Grrr, I hate backgrounds). I had backed on there being an A3 scanner somewhere I could use once I was done with this, but the one at the library did a terrible job. This was taken with my trusty D-SLR. Usually camera shots of drawings turn out pretty bad, but I guess I underestimate the power of my awesome Pentax. :D

One problem I encountered with this one was the dilemma on whether to bloody Azura's swords or not. Perhaps I'm a sadist, but I think blood looks cool on a drawing like this. To make sure I was doing it right, I got some Ribena syrup (to emulate blood) and poured it on a dive-knife- It didn't stick at all. In the end, I decided what the hell, go for it and it came to this, which I'm happy with, despite the possible realism flaw.

Another something useful I found out doing this was how I did the sky. Dreading the task of shading all that blank space, only to fill it up with messy, sketchy lines, I used a different approach. I took a cotton make-up-remover pad thing from my sister's make-up drawer and then sharpened my 8B pencil onto it and ground it into the cotton. The result- a nice way to evenly apply a uniform shade to a large area. :winner:

Well, seems this description has already gotten TL;DR, so I'll leave it at that.

Time taken: A long long time
Tools: Graphite pencils (2H-8B), cotton buds, putty eraser, normal eraser, cotton make-up pad.

<Hork-Bajir, come on out,> I said firmly. Slowly the big creature crawled out. He stood erect, blinking in the dim evening light.

"Not Hork-Bajir," he said. "Jara Hamee. My name. Jara Hamee."

You will definitely be drawing photorealistic pictures if this is where you are at right now. Fantastic work.

What would you do if your continent was suddenly overrun with zombies and you were the only one left?
