A bit of a follow-on from [link] in expanding the culture of the Kutrahl.
The Kutrahl as a species have a rather high fertility and birth rate, which tends to put strain on resources, resulting in war breaking out, which in turn controls the population. A rather grisly cycle but an unstable equilibrium. While each clan has skilled regiments of organised soldiers, the majority of Kutrahl soldiers simply form a rabble of poorly trained conscript militia. Weapons and armour are simply collected off the battlefield after each conflict and redistributed until they are physically broken beyond repair and sometimes even past that point. Still, the Kutrahl as a soldier is fast, agile and highly aggressive.

Just another sidenote I thought I'd make was a diversion on the Kutrahl's tendency towards wooden armour. The wooden armour plates used by many Kutrahl soldiers is cut from a unique ironwood tree found natively throughout Kutrahl territory. Naturally, the wood is heavy and strong, but it is usually fire-hardened before being fitted as armour. Fire hardening removes the moisture, simultaneously making the plate harder and lighter. As a material for armour construction, it is cheap, easy and effective.

Anyhow, this is just another simple concept drawing and this guy isn't a new character or anything. As far as weapons and armour go, he seems to have done reasonably well for himself- despite the fact that most of it is rusty and damaged, at least he's got a pretty complete set, which would set him above most.

I'm quite happy with this drawing as a whole, especially the pose. I feel I've got him captured mid-step rather than in a standing pose or the likes. There's not much movement, but there is some. My self-criticism of this is foremost something you can't see- this picture is actually rather small, I didn't use all the room on the paper at all and hence there's potential for more detail that I didn't make use of. Still, it's a break from doing nothing and overall I'm pleased with it. Do feel free to tell me if you spot anything I can improve on it. :)

Very interesting. Great textures and shading, especially on the wooden surfaces. One thing that bugs me though, is the width of the greaves-if you will-they look as if they would knock into each other while the Kutrahl was walking or running. If they were narrower or curved around the thighs, then they wouldn't, but I can't tell if they are fitted or not. That's the impression I get anyway.
And . . . I really like the axe for some unknown reason.

DA says this would-be critic isn't rich enough to be allowed to write proper critique... but I do it anyway.

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

the anatomy needs some improvment but as always I'm stunned by your textures !! the wood is very well done
and the shading seems pretty well done too!

maybe the right arm could have been better if it wasn't done straight(hum dunno how to say it...(damn I'm french)) done with perspective..you see?

it's a nice piece of drawing here !

Thank you! :D

Hehe, yeah, I'm expanding the universe of my original character, Azura [link]
I don't know if I'll ever get a complete story done for him, but I consider him a constant work-in-progress.
