Azura - Death's Envoy

This is my oldest original character, Azura. Azura is a professional assassin of my fictional race, the Kutrahl. In his contracts, Azura is ruthlessly efficient, having long lost all semblance of a conscience years ago. He has no regrets, no mercy and no shame, holding nothing sacred to complete his missions.

Childhood's Twilight

I tend to try my hand at everything from time to time, so my featured deviation is generally whatever my newest four aren't, in order to maintain maximum variety on my main page. So if I've done four photos, I'll feature a drawing and vice versa.

This is perhaps my favourite of my photographic attempts. Yes I know sunset photos are generally "Just add camera" great shots, but I'm a sucker for pretty colours. Most of my photos are landscapes, taken here in my home country of New Zealand.

Newest

I do several styles of artwork here. I've taken up nature photography over the last few years and this contrasts fairly heavily with my generally violent and war-related drawings and character designs.

...I suppose it's better to get it out of the system on paper than in real life yes? =P

My favourite video games are the Halo trilogy and I've also done a wee bit of fanart relating to them.

As a self-professed critic, it would be very hypocritical of me to not accept criticism and I do in all forms. I learn more from one honest opinion than I do from twenty insincere compliments. If you have any thoughts whatsoever on my work, don't hold back!

Favourites

I have my reservations about the faves system. I think people abuse them as a way to meter out a pre-measured, impersonal and generic degree of appreciation, without any thought or effort.

As such, I make a point to not treat them like this and I'm very stingy with what I let in here, only ever giving out three or four per week. When I call something a 'Favourite', you can be sure I really, really mean it.

Well, as the title implies, I'm back here in Christchurch after a thoroughly enjoyable excursion in the South Pacific. Niue was an interesting place, no beaches, but pristine clear water.

I've got a LOT of photos to look through, but as always, only the best will end up here, so I'll be uploading over the next week or so. We borrowed a cheap underwater camera which despite being absolutely horrid to use (one of those old bastards that has a second or two's delay between hitting the shutter release and it actually going), did the job ok. There were these two guys from Hong Kong there who had huge underwater housings for their dSLR's, including massive big extensions for strobe lights and flashes and a fish-eye lens that must have been 15cm in diameter. Very impressive stuff, but I haven't got the $10,000 to get a rig like those for mine yet...
We went out a few times looking for whales, but alas, none were to be found. I would have loved to have seen/photographed a humpback up close underwater and despite my unshakable optimism that we would see one, they seemed to be making themselves scarce. We did see spinner dolphins, but getting good photos of something that goes that fast is a bit tough with a camera like mine, so there weren't many good ones. I might post one to scraps though.

Irritatingly, the one time I get a chance to draw some stuff as well and I've had no real desire to do so. I've got one picture shaded that I might put a background to and upload but that's about it. :(
I did start on a little bit of writing which I may or may not finish/upload. I still have a few pieces finished that have been sitting about for aaaaages now too, I just don't really think anyone would bother reading any of them if I posted them here.

What's worse than art-block is that this term looks like it's really going to be a case of hitting the ground running, our sadistic 204 teacher's already sprung a surprise 10% test on us this Thursday which is going to pressurise my first week back a bit. So far only one result has come back for my exams though and it was an A, so that bodes well for the start of this term. :w00t:

Anyhow, that's about all from me right now. I'll upload my best photos a few at a time over the next wee while. :)

Greetings from New Zealand... you know, those two little islands where they filmed Lord of the Rings? Yeah, there.

My name's Max, I'm 18 years old and I'm in my second year of my Electrical Engineering degree at the university where Lord Ernest Rutherford, the man who split the atom studied at, Canterbury University.

To be honest, my interest in drawing is rather odd considering how much of an objective, logic driven science geek I am. I do take this viewpoint a lot and apply it to art though. I don't like pretension in art and the I consider the quality of the finished product above any other criteria (Method/medium used or any hidden meaning/symbolism which isn't immediately apparent). I enjoy realism and good workmanship.

I consider myself an approachable person and I'm more than happy to help anyone who's willing to listen to me, which has gained me somewhat of a reputation as a good critic. I don't know everything but I am honest. If you'd like my opinion on a piece of artwork and maybe a suggestion or two, I'm always ready to oblige. :)

In my own art style, I aim for hyper-realism, when I can take a fictitious, fantastical character and make them appear real on a page. I'm a long way off it yet, but I'm clawing my way up slowly.

I also write way too much whenever a box on the internet prompts me to write something, hence all this textwall... ^^;

Oh, it's up to you. I had thought since you tried to link me to it offsite, that meant you didn't want to post it in your main gallery for some reason. ^^;

Thanks very much! :manhug:

Hehe, thanks but that's a local address for your computer not an internet link, there's no way that will take me to the image unless I was using your computer. ^^;
You could either submit it to your scraps gallery, or even join up to imageshack/photobucket or some other image upload site. :)

Hehe, thanks, I made a .gif out of my favourite moment from "Half Life: Full Life Consequences", which is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen. xD

I'll have a go at the quiz now that you've tagged me, although most of the questions would be rather difficult for most of my characters- I might do my Raptor Sniper Murk. :plotting:
